    Description

Exceptionally rare and genuine example of a 1660 Commonwealth  Shilling with the coveted Anchor mintmark; weight is 5.54g.
Commonwealth coins with the anchor mintmark are extremely rare  in any denomination and hardly ever appear on the market. The only 3 denominations bearing the Anchor mintmark (sixpence, shilling and half crown) were issued in tiny numbers and only from late 1658 to early 1660. They were issued in the name of Richard Cromwell subsequent to the death of his father Oliver Cromwell and prior to the restoration of the Monarchy in May 1660.
