    Description

Condition as seen. Two letters August 1864 written on same page, from Helena Arkansas to his Sister and Brother.  Name looks to Fred Sorrenson/Simonson or Something close to that.  No cover so can't see where it was sent.  Talks about sending photographs home with his letters, "I find out that the Gerrillas are having a nice time in and about Fayette County and that there was great excitement for fear that they would take Vandalia.  I suppose they will have to send us Hundred Vets there to enforce the draft and if they don'tour time will be out in 40 days.  We expected an attack here last night and this morning, at 5 o'clock the pickets fired at a mule supposing it to be a man which caused our regiment to fall in and get into the entrenchments .  Talks about his brother training the cows, and how difficult it must be, berry picking and wishing he had some here but has not been outside the picket lines. etc.  Interesting commentary by a soldier stationed in the heart of the Confederacy in Arkansas.  Wish I could make out the name and find his regiment.
