Small handwriting, but an Excellent May 20th, 1864, Civilian letter from a Germantown Pa resident "Aunt Mary" to her niece Nellie.
She mentions the men going away in their pride and strength but she later sees the sun-burnt maimed, cripples come here day after day…on Sunday 500 came to Nicetown Hosp, and several ambulances loaded went up to Germantown & Chestnut Hill Hospitals. Mentions Grant Battles,
Mentions Capt. Will Dorr was killed in last Tuesdays battle, mentions how sad reading the list in the papers of dead, missing, and captured. Talks about a relative who is a POW and very sick, talks abut the cruelty of Jeff Davis Gov't. Truly fine letter from a civilian viewpoint.
This is truly worth reading, Aunt Mary was as close as an eye witness for we who only guess at how the civilians viewed the War, and she does so with almost a journalist's eye.  Shipping and handling in CONUS would be at no cost.
