    Description

A Japanese gilded brocade Satsuma vase of baluster form elaborately decorated in polychrome enamels and with geometric patterning and decorative panels of figures.
Satsuma ware is a style of Japanese earthenware originally from the Satsuma region of what is today southern Kyūshū. There are two distinct categories of this ware: The original plain dark clay early Satsuma made from circa 1600 and the elaborately decorated ivory-bodied pieces, which began to be produced in the 19th century as export products. By adapting their gilded polychromatic enamel overglaze designs to appeal to the tastes of western consumers, latter made Satsuma ware became one of the most recognized and profitable export products of the Meiji period (1868 - 1912.)
APPROX 23.5"H - I have taken close up images of what i believe to be repair touch ups (no cracks or chips) on the painted neck portion. Although a shop keep told me that it might not be a repair given the style of vase and hand paint technique, but that it looks like it since some of the paint flaked off. What ever the case is, repair or original, I am trying my best to describe the item as is. These do not take away from how beautiful it is and are very hard to notice.
