Description
CHARLES KERRISON JR.enlisted as a Private in the Carolina Light Infantry on April 9, 1861. He was wounded at Savage Station, Antietam and twice at Gettysburg, where he was wounded in the thigh and face.
He was captured on July 5, 1863 and sent to Chester Pennsylvania Hospital and later to Fort McHenry Prison, Fort Monroe and Fort Delaware Prisons.
He was promoted as Aide-de-Camp with the rank of Captain on Gen. John D. Kennedy’s staff. His letter on the Battle of Fredericksburg is an important source of information on the detached duty of his company.
