Thornton A. Jenkins, Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy, Chief of Staff to David Farragut, received the Confederate's surrender at Port Hudson, present at the battle of Mobile Bay, Letter Signed, 28 September 1865, on "Navy Department, Bureau of Navigation and Office of Detail, Washington, D.C." letterhead, to Acting 3rd Assistant Engineer Martin Luther Taylor, accepting his resignation and informing him his honorable discharge will be forwarded. Taylor was then on the U.S.S. Monadnock at Philadelphia, letter sent to Commandant Isaac Hull, who signs on the verso.In very good condition, staining especially at upper right.
